Silvermine

Images from the last week or so from Hout Bay area, to a local national park are called Silvermine. Silvermine is one of many diverse recreational areas with hiking, horse trails, mtn. biking and much more. The region here is renowned for its flora, so here's a sample of what we have here.

A "braai" site (BBQ) at Silvermine reservoir. Silvermine is located within Table Mountain National Park. Silvermine is located within the Cape Floral Kingdom.

It is very natural and peaceful here. A red dragonfly rests near the waters edge. The Cape Floral Kingdom is the smallest, but most diverse, of the six floral kingdoms in the world.

My mom likes dried wood sticks like this. ( : Year round you can enjoy a variety of floral species & vegetation. Shadows and insects.

The reservoir here is fed by the Silvermine river. It was built in 1898, and supplied water to Kalk Bay & Muizenberg towns until 1912. The Cape Floral Kingdom is listed as #2 in the world. Officially called: Capensis. Silvermine Reservoir.

A large number of the plants that reside here in Capensis region, are rare and endangered... and some are not found anywhere else in the world. I really need to get a flora book.... Yes, a book is required....

The only one of these I saw all day. A small bush of white flowers. A little one. Silvermine flora.

Diversity. Hiding. Fynbos, is the primary type of plant found here.

Fynbos is the collective name for the evergreen-like shrub plants that cover this area. Scenic view toward Chapmans Bay. Gravelly road. Over the other side of that mountain is Cape Town.
